刚听老家的人说，堂舅妈桂花去年年末就去世了。那时候正是新冠在国内流行的高峰，不知道是不是与之相关。听说她本来就患有糖尿病， 加上年纪也不小了，所以没能逃过一劫。
小时候我们都叫她婶娘，她是我母亲远房的堂弟媳。当年我在外婆家，她家和我外婆家是一墙之隔的邻居，既是远亲，又是近邻，两家的那点事儿，都清楚，至今记忆犹新。尤其是看电影或电视剧《手机》，里面有个人物叫同样的名字，每次看到这电影或电视剧，总会想起我的这个同名舅妈。
桂花婶年轻的时候漂亮，是远近闻名的大美人。她总说是她父亲受骗了，才把她从相对富裕的老家嫁到这贫瘠的婆家。话虽这么说，可她却还是从一而终，相夫教子，生了两儿三女。大儿子和我差不多大，也和我一样，五、六岁大的时候患了脑（膜）炎。只是我侥幸逃过了死劫，活下来了，而他却没能逃过那一劫。
她父亲是木匠，当年到她后来的夫家做活，受到主家极好的款待，做完木工活，也把闺女的亲事就这么定下来了。我5、6岁去外婆家的时候，她已经嫁过来好几年了，还有了儿子，可每一次叙家常，和我外婆说起来，还总是埋怨她父亲把她嫁到这里。那年头，农村的人娶媳妇很不容易的，更何况是很穷的地方。
那时候的农民还苦，起早贪黑，终年劳累，可还是难以糊口。婆家娶到这如花似玉的媳妇，自然会当作宝。可不管怎么样，还是得下地做农活，日晒雨淋。尽管如此，还是显得与众不同，难免有一些故事。她是长辈，业已离世，就不赘述了。
她的大儿子病亡之后，又生了三个女儿，一个小儿子。不过那都是我离开那里以后的事了。
九年前我去拜祭外婆，顺便去看了她。那时她老伴已过世多年，女儿们都已出嫁，儿子也在县城找了一个不错的工作，她自己一个人在家，守着几间看上去还没完工的两层农舍，依稀还能看到当年的风采，我还专门给她在家门口留影纪念，只是没有旧照片对比。
这次再次回去拜祭外婆，路过她家门口，房子还在，人却已亡。在外婆的坟墓旁边，多了一新土堆。据说刚过世的，要等一年才能立墓碑。
